Coming to NSHN

Registration
Please remember to bring your Ontario Health Card (OHIP Card) and pertinent insurance information with you to the hospital. You may also want to bring a list of the medications you are currently taking, including:

prescription medications

non-prescription ("over-the-counter") medications

herbal remedies
-
vitamins and supplements
During your admission, you will receive an identification bracelet which is to be worn at all times while you are a patient at NSHN. This bracelet is how we identify you to receive the proper treatment, medications, and for emergency purposes.
Once this bracelet is placed on your wrist please do not remove it while you are a patient at NSHN.
Self-Identification
During Registration, you will be asked if you self-identify as First Nations, Métis or Inuit.

If I am admitted to the hospital, what will I need?

All current medications you are taking, in their original containers

Your own toiletries, including:

toothbrush

toothpaste
-
shampoo & conditioner
-
deodorant
-
razor & shaving cream
-
comb or brush
-

Your own pajamas, a robe, slip-resistant slippers, and your own pillow (if you choose)

Any aids* you use, such as:

cane
-
walker
-
wheelchair
-
hearing aids
-
dentures
-
eyeglasses
-
*Be sure to label your first and last name on these items.
What shouldn't I bring with me?
When packing for your hospital stay, please be advised that NSHN is a scent-aware organization. As such, we request that you leave heavily scented personal items, including perfumes or colognes, at home.
Money and valuables should be left at home.
If you have jewelry, credit cards, or large sums of money with you, please ask a family member or loved one to take them home.
