Coming to NSHN

Registration
Please remember to bring your Ontario Health Card (OHIP Card) and pertinent insurance information with you to the hospital. You may also want to bring a list of the medications you are currently taking, including:

prescription medications

non-prescription ("over-the-counter") medications

herbal remedies
-
vitamins and supplements

During your admission, you will receive an identification bracelet​ which is to be worn at all times while you are a patient at NSHN. This bracelet is how we identify you to receive the proper treatment, medications, and for emergency purposes.
​
Once this bracelet is placed on your wrist please do not remove it while you are a patient at NSHN.
Self-Identification
During Registration, you will be asked if you self-identify as First Nations, Métis or Inuit.

If I am admitted to the hospital, what will I need?

All current medications you are taking, in their original containers

Your own toiletries, including:

​shampoo & conditioner

deodorant

razor & shaving cream

comb or brush

Your own pajamas, a robe, slip-resistant slippers, and your own pillow (if you choose)

Any aids* you use, such as:

hearing aids

dentures

eyeglasses

*Be sure to label your first and last name on these items.
What shouldn't I bring with me?
When​ packing for your hospital stay, please be advised that NSHN is a scent-aware organization. As such, we request that you leave heavily scented personal items, including perfumes or colognes, at home.

Money and valuables should be left at home.
​
If you have jewelry, credit cards, or large sums of money with you, please ask a family member or loved one to take them home.
